Omaha Shooting Kills Principal....

Dr. Vicki Kaspar, the Assistant Principal at Millard South High School, died at Creighton University Medical Center Wednesday evening after being shot by a disgruntled student who opened fire inside the high school earlier that afternoon.

A spokesman for the Millard Public Schools says Dr. Kaspar, who had worked for the school district since 1988, would have turned 59 Thursday.

As of Wednesday evening, South Principal Dr. Curtis Case, who was also shot and severely wounded during the school shooting, remained in serious condition, reports CBS affiliate KMTV.

Police say Robert Butler Jr., a senior at the Omaha high school, opened fire inside the school office at 12:50 p.m.

The 17-year-old gunman fired 4-5 shots fatally wounding the assistant principal and seriously injuring the school's principal before exiting the building.

Butler then fled school grounds to his car which was parked in an office complex approximately two miles away and turned the gun on himself, taking his own life.

No other students were wounded during the shooting.

Butler's family and friends are shocked and are struggling to reconcile his actions with their memories of the fun, outgoing student who liked to make jokes and sometimes got into trouble for talking in class.

Butler, whose father is an Omaha police officer, had recently transferred to Omaha's Millard South High School from Lincoln Southwest which is about 50 miles away.

The night before the shooting, Butler posted an angry message on Facebook saying the Omaha school was worse than his previous one, and that the new city had changed him. He apologized and said he wanted people to remember him for who he was before affecting "the lives of the families I ruined."
